Autism
Consulting Services specializes in providing small group (i.e., hands
on) trainings to educators, parents and other professionals who are
interested in learning how to teach language and other critical
learning skills to children with autism or other developmental
disabilities. Our trainings focus on how to design and implement
procedures based on the principles of applied behavior analysis.
Specifically an emphasis is placed on Skinner's analysis of verbal
behavior (1957) and how to create a language-based learning environment
in which skills taught will generalize and maintain over time without
the need for intensive instruction.
Our small-group trainings
emphasize active participation of all workshop attendees as there is a
strong correlation between increased engagement and retention of
material. We strive to make sure that individuals who attend our
trainings experience a learning style that not only informs them but
engages them in the material covered.
Autism Consulting Services
also provides a variety of 1-day large-group overview workshops for
parents and professionals who are interested in learning how to teach
language and other critical learning skills to children with autism or
other developmental disabilities. Please note that the 1-day workshops
do not include role play activities to practice procedures or provide
the participants with feedback on teaching methods due to the limted
amount of time available for instruction.
